Background

High Sierra Beef, Inc (HSB) was established in 2004 as a for-profit corporation after two years of feasibility study and business planning. The vision of HSB is a producer-controlled business that markets beef products of consistent quality in order to sustain family ranches. The mission of HSB is to provide a distinctive, high-quality and safe grass-fed and finished product raised in the Sierra Nevada region of California and Nevada. In so ding, High Sierra Beef will sustain family ranches by providing greater profitability for producers and investors.

What Has Been Learned Through an Initial Trial with 19 Steers:

  1. Cattle can be finished year round with proper forage rations and management. This means HSB products can be available year round.

  2. The ultrasound technology and computer software utilized by HSB is a reliable predictor of carcass quality, yield, and harvest date

  3. Significant demand exists for grass-fed beef within the Sierra Nevada region

Why You Should Attend One of These Outreach Meetings

  1. Learn more about High Sierra Beef's program and production protocols

  2. Demonstration of ultrasound technology and beef image analysis software which is being used to qualify steers and heifers for HSB and predict time of harvest

  3. View carcass quality and yield results

  4. Learn about settlement prices and projected economic returns back to the producer

  5. Enjoy a meal of HSB grass-fed beef hamburgers with all the trimmings

  6. Discussion time for any questions or concerns you may have
